Emergency Telephone Numbers

Fire - 999

  • If you have a fire in your home or anywhere in your building or estate telephone 999 to call the fire brigade as soon as possible

Smell of gas/ gas leak - 0800 111999

  • If you have a gas leak or you are worried you can smell gas anywhere in your building or estate then call the National Grid emergency line on 0800 111999 as soon as possible

Person trapped in a lift - 020 7378 9546

  • If a person is trapped in a lift then first see if they can restart the lift by pressing the top floor button or the ground floor button. If that does not work, the quickest way to get someone released is to call the Southwark emergency lift line on 020 7378 9546. If someone in the lift is taken ill then call the fire brigade on 999. However the fire brigade will only come quickly if someone in the lift is ill.

Estate electricity failure - 0800 028 0247

  • If the electricity has failed for the whole estate, or the whole of your building then call 0800 028 0247, the London emergency number for EDF. If only your home is affected, check the information on the In an Emergency page of this website.

Crime (including drug dealing or drug use) - 999

  • If a crime is happening, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, someone is injured, being threatened or in danger - including drug dealing and drug use - then call the Police on 999.
    If you need to report a crime that has already happened - such as a burglary or car theft - then call the Metropolitan Police on 0300 123 1212

Any other emergencies - 020 7450 8000
