Richard Bailey’s colleagues remember him

Esther Gabriel who worked with Richard for many years wrote:

THOMAS RICHARD BAILEY 02.02.1940-27.01.2015

Richard lived his life to the full. Whether at work or in his personal life, giving over 13 years voluntary service as a Samaritan, doing charity walks or his passion of mountain walking with his wife.

He worked at Leathermarket JMB for 11 years, and gave his all for the tenants and residents. Having never worked in the public sector before Leathermarket, his abiding memory on starting was the joy of ‘flexi days’.

Upon retirement, though not in good health he still returned to Leathermarket once a week to volunteer his services and give support to the residents.

Richard was a man of strong opinions and had no problems voicing them. He also had his own standards on life, much of which he expected others to follow.

He was a good friend and colleague. Richard loved attending the Leathermarket AGM (to tick off names). He was always touched that long after retiring, he was not forgotten by the residents.

Sadly Richard’s retirement was affected by his health which meant he was unable to fulfil his great plans of travelling with his beloved wife Jean.

Richard had a deep love for his family. He doted on his wife, saying his life wouldn’t be complete without her. He spoke proudly of his 3 sons and of their achievements. He felt elated at being a grandfather and spoke of the joy and laughter his 3 granddaughters gave him.

Richard had a good heart and was a fighter for the causes of other people. He will be sadly missed

Sue Ellery who also worked with Richard said ‘such a sad time I can not believe it, I can imagine that you are all in shock at Leathermarket, such a great man to lose’.

Richard funeral is on Thursday 26th February. If you want to attend, send flowers or make a donation please contact Debbie Chandler at the JMB office
